Contagious in Cannes / Encore un StorySLAM!
Our second live storytelling showdown is ON!
Dust off your flip-flops, knock back that cocktail and get your name in the hat for the most competitive event at the Cannes Lions, as Contagious, Huge, and Google present another Moth StorySLAM!
The capacity crowd for last year's event on Google Beach experienced the full range of human emotion as a plucky selection of their industry peers stepped up to the mic to share inglorious tales inspired by the theme MY WORST DAY IN ADVERTISING.
Veteran creatives Harvey 'I'd like to buy the world a Coke' Gabor, and Bob 'I can't believe I ate the whole thing' Pasqualina relived tales of firings, severance and near-misses. Laurie Coots kicked off with 'I know intellectually where chicken comes from,' before describing her Damascene conversion to vegetarianism. Tom Morton explained to a rapt audience how to flush Busta Rhymes down a toilet, while Shane Ginsberg took things in a whole other direction with the fateful words 'At that point I realised my wife and I weren't meant to be together...'
You can check out the highlights in the video above, but this year we're determined to make it even better. The format remains the same: this is an open-mic event and all our guests are encouraged to come along with a story to tell. If you have what it takes to get up on stage, you drop your name in the hat. If you name is drawn, you will have five minutes to hold forth, with the promise of applause, bartenders and deck chairs on standby at the conclusion of your tale. Our theme for 2013 is THE HARD SELL; Bring stories revealing the triumph of your persuasive powers or your best-laid plans defeated. Valiant digital efforts or desperate analogue measures. Selling Light Sabers to Luddites or snow to Eskimos. Reluctant brides, resistant teens, stubborn horses and other outlandish uphill battles!
We are beside ourselves with glee to be staging this event with the support and enthusiasm of a truly kick-ass set of partners. Appropriately super-sized thanks to Huge for helping us bring the SLAM back to France; to the team at The Moth simply for existing and sharing their live storytelling expertise; and to Google for welcoming us back to the best venue in Cannes.
