New Directors Showcase / Saatchi & Saatchi
The hottest new directing talents and the winner of Moby's Music Video Challenge
Saatchi & Saatchi's annual new directors showcase is one of Cannes Lions' hottest tickets and this year proved no exception.
Kicking off with an audio visual performance from Jamie Lidell, which integrated Aaron Meyers-designed Kinect technology, the event was introduced by Tom Eslinger, Saatchi & Saatchi's worldwide digital creative director, who explained: 'At the show you'll essentially be immersed in a technological extravaganza with interaction, sound and graphics.'
The films varied from animation to live action, from serious to quirky. A couple of Contagious favourites are shown above - The Daniels' Dogboarding, Andreas Roth's Dirt Devil and The General Assembly's Through The Night. You can watch all of the films showcased, as well as Jamie Lidell's performance here.
Kate Stanners, creative director of Saatchi & Saatchi London, commented, 'As the media landscape constantly evolves, the skills required of a great director are still based on an ability to tell a story, to engage their audience, be that through new techniques or skilled performance.'
Moby's new music video also debuted at the showcase, the result of a competition lauched by Saatchis in conjunction with music video champions BUG and Vimeo. The winning music video, selected from almost 600 entries, was created by Alberto Gomez, and is shown above. Eslinger added: 'The thing that I'm really proud of was that we created some content beyond us just playing back the reel - Moby's got essentially 43 hours of film. '
