A lubricant brand creates an app to give people’s doors extra squeak this Halloween
WD-40 has produced a Halloween app that adds spooky creaks and squeaks to your door.
The lubricant manufacturer worked with BIMM, Toronto, to create the Haunted Door app. Users who download the free app can choose their favourite from a range of sound effects, and then put their phone in a bag and hang it on their front door handle. When the door is opened to welcome trick-or-treaters, the app is activated and emits squeaks, creaks and screams.
Contagious Insight /
An app that opens doors / WD-40 is about as far away from a lifestyle brand as you can get and, consequently, opportunities to insert itself into people’s lives are thin on the ground. However, the Haunted Door is both fun and relevant, and feels like a legitimate way for the brand to interact with people.
By offering to help people on the one day when they do want a creaky door, WD-40 reminds people of its existence and its purpose – to help rid us of those sounds the rest of the year.
