Cannes Lions 2025: Audio & Radio winners

Budweiser turns up the volume to win the Audio & Radio Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2025

Budweiser has won the Grand Prix in Audio & Radio category at Cannes Lions for the One Second Ads campaign, created by Africa Creative DDB, São Paulo.

To connect more deeply with music fans in Brazil, Budweiser launched a series of ads that lasted just one second. Each ad featured the instantly recognisable first note of an iconic song, from Beyoncé to The Beatles, challenging viewers to identify the track.

The ultra-short format made the ads unskippable and invited fans to prove their musical knowledge by guessing the songs in the comments. Those who guessed correctly received a direct message from Budweiser with a beer coupon.

By using only one second of each track, Budweiser was also able to avoid paying music licensing fees, allowing for dozens of executions across TikTok, each targeted to individual music tastes and fan communities.

Jury president Xolisa Dyeshana, chief creative officer at Joe Public, outlined several key themes that emerged from this year’s Audio & Radio entries. He noted the strong return of big brands to the category, following several years where charity and non-profit campaigns had dominated. FMCG brands in particular made up 33% of entries, 46% of the shortlist and 48% of the final winners.

He noted that humour is becoming an increasingly effective way for brands to cut through, and, that in a challenging world, consumers want to increasingly engage with light-hearted creative.

Finally, Dyeshana said: ‘It’s a really good piece of work, it is exceptionally creative [and] it harnessed the power of music, which is one of the biggest passion point of consumers, and in doing so we felt that it resonated not just with the brand, but also with the medium and with the fans.’
